Smart Lists Guide

Currencies

Currencies tell Smart Lists what money unit a balance or Budget List uses. Smart Lists keeps currencies explicit rather than converting between them.

Choosing a currency

  1. Open the Smart Lists side drawer.
  2. Select “Settings”.
  3. Open the currency setting and choose the currency you want to use as your preference.

Default currency for new lists

When you create a new “Budget” List, review the currency shown during setup.

Change it if the list should use a different currency.

Budget List currency

A “Budget” List uses its selected currency for the monthly budget and purchase amounts.

All amounts inside that list should be entered in the same currency.

Personal Balance currency

“Personal Balance” has its own currency.

Choose the currency that represents the balance you personally want to track.

Using different currencies across lists

Different “Budget” Lists can use different currencies.

For example, a travel list can use one currency while a normal monthly list uses another.

Each list tracks its own amounts independently.

Currency matching for Balance Sync

Balance Sync only works when the “Personal Balance” currency and the in-list currency are the same.

IMPORTANT

USD “Personal Balance” + USD list = sync works. USD “Personal Balance” + EUR list = sync does NOT work.

What happens when currencies do not match

If the “Personal Balance” currency and the Balance Sync list currency are different, Smart Lists does not sync that purchase to “Personal Balance”.

IMPORTANT

Different currencies mean no Personal “Balance sync”.

Why Smart Lists does not convert currencies

Smart Lists does not perform exchange rate conversion between currencies.

This keeps balances predictable and avoids hidden exchange rate assumptions.

Changing a list currency

  1. Open the list settings.
  2. Change the currency if that option is available.
  3. Review existing amounts carefully because changing the currency label does not mean Smart Lists converted the value of old amounts.
