The four list types

Smart Lists has four main list types: Checklists, Basic Budget, Payer Tracking, and Balance Sync.

1. Checklist

Checklists

Use a Checklist when you only need to keep track of items or tasks.

2. Basic Budget

Basic Budget

A Basic Budget List tracks your budget, what you have spent, and what remains.

  1. Open the list and select the filter icon at the top.
  2. Enter your budget.
  3. Add your list items.
  4. When you buy an item, select the item itself and enter the price.
Example: Budget = 300. Bread costs 5. Select “Bread” and enter 5 in the amount section. The budget card updates the amount spent and the amount remaining.
3. Payer Tracking

Payer Tracking

Payer Tracking is a Budget List for situations where members need to see how much each person is paying. It works like a Basic Budget List, but when an item is selected you can also choose who paid for it.

Example: Three students share a kitchen. Student 1 buys milk for 7.50 and Student 2 buys bread for 10. Student 3 records both purchases. For milk, Student 3 selects Student 1 as payer. For bread, Student 3 selects Student 2. The spending breakdown reflects each person’s spending.

Payer Tracking is also useful when a shared list needs to work with Personal Balance. A Basic Budget List cannot sync with Personal Balance.

4. Balance Sync

Balance Sync

A Balance Sync Budget List allows purchases in that specific list to affect your Personal Balance automatically.

Example: Personal Balance = 1,000. You record an item for 55 in a Balance Sync list. The in-list budget reduces by 55 and your Personal Balance also reduces by 55, becoming 945.
IMPORTANT: currencies must matchIf Personal Balance is USD and the list is EUR, sync will NOT occur. If Personal Balance is USD and the list is USD, sync WILL occur.

Themes and currencies

Open the side drawer and select “Settings” to change Themes and your currency preference.

Remember that individual Balance Sync lists also have an in-list currency, and that currency must match Personal Balance for syncing to work.

Link your account

Linking your account is important. If Smart Lists is uninstalled, you log out by mistake, or you move to another device, your linked account gives you a way to sign back in and recover your existing lists.
