Smart Lists Guide

Budget List Basics

Budget Lists combine normal list items with spending tracking. They show how much has been used from the monthly budget and how much remains.

What a Budget List is

A “Budget” List looks and behaves like a list, but it also tracks money spent against the items in that list.

“Budget” Lists show budget information at the top of the list and can display spending information on the Home tile.

Use a “Budget” List for things such as groceries, monthly expenses or payments you want to monitor.

Creating a Budget List

  1. From Home, start creating a new list.
  2. Choose “Budget” as the list type.
  3. Enter the list name and review the available options.
  4. Create the list. It then appears on Home as a “Budget” list.

Setting a monthly budget

  1. Open the “Budget” List.
  2. Use the budget setting at the top of the list or in the list settings.
  3. Enter the amount you want to use for the month and save it.
  4. Smart Lists then uses that amount to calculate “Used” and “Remaining”.

Understanding “This month”

The “This month” section represents the current monthly budget period for that list.

The amounts shown there are based on purchases recorded during the current month.

When the next month begins, Smart Lists starts a new monthly tracking period for the list.

Understanding “Used”

“Used” shows the total value of purchases recorded in the current monthly period. Each recorded purchase increases this amount.

Understanding “Remaining”

“Remaining” shows how much of the monthly budget is still available. It is calculated from the budget amount minus “Used”.

Adding items to a Budget List

  1. Open the “Budget” List.
  2. Tap the “+” icon to add an item.
  3. Enter the item name and confirm it.
  4. The item stays active until you select it to record the purchase amount.

Editing and reordering Budget List items

  1. Use the item edit control to change an item name.
  2. Press and hold an item to move it to a different position when reordering is available.
  3. Changing the item name does not by itself change the purchase amount recorded against it.
