Smart Lists Guide

Shared Lists

A shared list lets more than one person work from the same list. Members see the shared list and the changes made to it.

What a shared list is

A shared list is a Smart Lists list that has more than one member.

Everyone who joins the list works from the same list rather than keeping separate copies.

The member count on the Home tile shows how many people currently belong to that list.

Sharing a list

  1. Open the list you want to share.
  2. Tap the share icon.
  3. Create an invitation code.
  4. Send the invitation code to the person you want to add.

Working on the same list together

After another person joins, both of you can open the same shared list.

Changes made to shared list content are reflected for the members of that list.

This makes it possible to manage a checklist or budget together.

What updates are shared

List content such as items and shared purchase information can be visible to members of that list.

Changes to the list itself are part of the shared list experience.

Exactly what is shown depends on the list type and which features are enabled.

What stays private

Your “Personal Balance” is private to you.

Another member can see shared list information but does not gain access to your private “Personal Balance”.

Private app settings such as your appearance choices are also personal to your device or profile.

Leaving a shared list

  1. Open the shared list.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Choose “Leave list”.
  4. Read the confirmation and continue if you want to remove yourself from that list.

What happens after you leave

After leaving, the shared list is removed from your own Smart Lists access.

Other remaining members can continue using the list when the list remains available to them.

Your departure also changes the member count.

What happens if the owner deletes the list

If the list itself is deleted, the shared list is no longer available to members.

This is different from one member choosing to leave.

Use delete only when the list should be removed, not merely when you personally no longer need access.
