Track Who Paid
Track Who Paid is for shared Budget Lists where you need to know which member actually paid for each purchase.
What Track Who Paid does
“Track Who Paid” adds payer information to purchases in a shared “Budget” List.
Instead of only recording the amount, Smart Lists can also record which member paid.
This lets the list separate your spending from spending by other members.
Turning Payer Tracking on
- Open the “Budget” List settings.
- Enable “Track Who Paid” or Payer Tracking.
- Save the setting.
- Future purchase entries can then include choosing a payer.
Recording who paid for a purchase
- Record a purchase as normal.
- Enter the purchase amount.
- Choose the member who paid.
- Save the purchase.
Choosing yourself as the payer
- When recording the purchase, select your own name as the payer.
- The purchase is then included in your spending total for that list.
Choosing another member as the payer
- When recording the purchase, choose the other member from the payer list.
- The purchase is then counted under that member rather than under you.
Understanding Total Spent
“Total Spent” is the combined value of purchases recorded in the list for the relevant period.
It includes purchases paid by you and purchases paid by other members.
Understanding You Spent
“You Spent” shows the value of purchases where you were recorded as the payer.
It is a breakdown of who paid, not a separate second budget.
Understanding Others Spent
“Others Spent” shows the value paid by members other than you.
Open the payer breakdown when you want to see the contribution of individual members.
Viewing the payer breakdown
- Open the “Budget” List.
- Tap the spending breakdown area.
- Smart Lists opens the detailed breakdown showing how spending is divided between the members recorded as payers.
Editing the payer
- Open the purchased item.
- Edit the purchase.
- Change the payer to the correct member.
- Save the change.
- The spending breakdown updates to reflect the corrected payer.
Undoing a payer tracked purchase
- Open the purchased item and choose “Undo purchase”.
- The purchase amount and payer record are reversed together.
- The spending breakdown updates after the undo.
What happens when someone leaves the list
The member can no longer continue using the shared list after leaving.
Existing purchase history may still contain purchases that were recorded while that person was a member.
Use the list's spending breakdown to understand historic payer information.
